Metograine Tablets

Each tablet contains:

Metograine contains ergotamine which is an alpha adrenergic blocking agent with a direct stimulating effect on the smooth muscle of peripheral and cranial blood vessels and reduces the stimuli that lead to vascular headaches. Caffeine, also a cranial vasocon-strictor, is added to further enhance the vasoconstrictor effect. Paracetamol is an effective non narcotic analgesic which reduces the perception of pain impulses originating from dilated cerebral vessels. Because patients with migraine are usually predisposed to nausea and vomiting, metoclopramide has been added.

• Metograine is indicated as therapy to abort or prevent vascular headaches such as migraine & migraine variants.

• Hypersensitivity to any of the product's components.
• Metograine is contraindicated in glaucoma, severe cases of renal disease, coronary heart disease, hepatic diseases and in those patients who are on monoamine-oxidase inhibitor therapy.
• Metograine is contraindicated in pregnancy.
• Metograine is contraindicated in children below 18 years.
• Metograine is contraindicated in patients of pheochromocytoma, GIT perforation, epilepsy, severe pruritis, sepsis, peripheral vascular disease, porphyria & hemorrhage.
• Patients with parkinsonism's disease should not be given Metograine.

Limb muscle pain, numbness and tingling in fingers and toes, transient tachycardia, vomiting and nausea, tardive dyskinesia, mental depression may occur.

• For relief of migraine headache, the usual adult dose is two tablets at once, followed by one tablet after one hour, then one tablet every 4 hours thereafter until relieved, up to 5 tablets during 24 hours period. Do not exceed 10 tablets per week.

No drug interaction.

Caution should be observed in patients with:

• Hypertension
• peripheral vascular disease
• following recent cardiovascular attacks

• Store below 30°C
• Keep out of reach of children
